20 Years of Commercial Success Commercial development is part of our picture.  Our neighborhoods include businesses on Payne and Arcade avenues, and throughout the area.  Successes include: • Investing in more than 70 businesses with matching funds to make facade improvements. • Creating the "Partners Program" with the Payne Arcade Business Association. • Provided entrepreneurship training in both English, Hmong and Spanish to over 75 people in partnership with the Neighborhood Development Center.                  • Initiating the "Mainstreet" program, which in its first year generated more than $600,000 in public and private investment on Payne Avenue. • Helped to create and continue to be the program sponsor of the Phalen Corridor Initiative, whose aim is to create 2000 jobs on the East Side. • Created the "International Marketplace" and "Payne Avenue Farmers Market" to create a place for the diverse people of our neighborhood to meet, exchange goods, and be entertained.
